Summary:l |
Wigan found themselves outclassed in the first half of
this Challenge Cup tie against Castleford at Central Park. They had opened
the scoring with a 12th Minute penalty from Colin Whitfield but three
minutes before that the loss of Martin Foy to injury was a big blow. Three
minutes after the penalty, Cas found a try with Marchant scoring from Bob
Beardmore's kick for 5-2. They later kicked a penalty for 7-2 and a killer
blow came just before half time when Ward scored a second try for Cas that
helped make it 12-2 to the visitors. Wigan would fight back to 12-7 with a
penalty from Whitfield and then a try for John Pendlebury but Marchant's
second try would seal the tie for them. Also, Wigan's Brian Case and
Castleford's James were sent off for fighting in the 49th Minute after Ward
had flattened Gary Stephens. |
