WiganlGoals:l Colin Whitfield 1

BBC Grandstand chose this John Player Quarter Final tie to televise but it wasn't the greatest of spectacles at a cold Willows ground. Salford had started well but Wigan began to find territory and the deadlock was finally broken in the 28th Minute. A beautiful offload by David Stephenson got John Pendlebury over and Colin Whitfield converted for 5-0. Two penalties either side of half time brought Salford back to 5-4 in the 45th Minute but no further scoring occurred. So Wigan reached the Semi Finals.
