Summary: |
This was the first derby in two years but yet only 7,611 turned out for this
first round cup tie. Saints took a 3-0 lead with a 4th minute try from Denis
Litherland but tries from Mick Scott, Glyn Shaw and David Stephenson, who
was making his Wigan debut, helped Wigan towards a 13-7 half time lead. A
second try for Stephenson and one for Geoff Cunliffe took Wigan into the
next round with Saints response coming from a Gary Moorby try. |
