Summary:l

New coach Kel Coslett took charge for the first time with Wigan travelling to Salford in the BBC Floodlit Trophy. Wigan were said to be full of enthusiasm here but lacking in quality against a Salford side who topped the league table and had only lost in the Lancashire Cup so far this season. Wigan's try though only came in the 76th Minute with only a drop goal from George Fairbairn having been kicked before then.

Television:l Delayed Highlights on BBC 2 between 10:15pm and 10:50pm - Commentator: Eddie Waring
Note:l

This season was the last time the BBC 2 Floodlit Trophy was contested. The novelty of floodlit rugby had well worn off and the BBC had reduced it's coverage to delayed highlights only in the last couple of seasons. The competition was scrapped when new TV deal was agreed in June 1980.
