Most of the drama in this Premiership Trophy tie occurred in the last ten minutes. Wigan led 7-5 at that point before Eric Chisnall gave Saints the lead with a try, that was topped up to a 10-7 lead with the conversion from Geoff Pimblett. Wigan looked beaten but with four minutes to go, Green Vigo hacked ahead and won the race to score his own try. That was 10-10 and it left George Fairbairn with a conversion to win it. His miss meant a replay instead.
