Summary:l |
This Players Trophy draw was especially poignant for York
Secretary David Bradley because he was formerly the Secretary of Wigan. They
were well excited for this tie but Wigan had battled well first half to lead
7-4 at the break with Jimmy Hornby having scored a try. York though found a
try from Banks which levelled the game at 7-7 and after Hetherington had
missed a drop goal attempt, Ferres kicked one to give York an 8-7 lead with
four minutes to go. Wigan lost their rag trying to salvage the tie and two
minutes later both Bill Francis and York's Gary Hetherington were sent off
for fighting. York hung on for a famous victory. |
