Going into this derby, St Helens were chasing the League Title and led the table by a slender +10 points difference from Salford, so this was an important game for them. Wigan too needed the points but it was avoiding relegation at stake from their point of view. In the end the point earned was the one point Wigan needed to avoid the drop but it should of been all two with Saints only rescuing the draw with a last minute penalty goal from Kel Coslett. Not winning would prove costly for Saints though with Salford winning away at Leigh in a simultaneous match. That put Salford a point clear with just two matches to go and they won out to take the title.

Half Time:  St Helens 2 Wigan 5
Attendance:  11,700
