Summary: 

An Oil Embargo forced by countries in the Middle East led to the Conservative government of the time having to ration energy use and that included ordering sports clubs to prohibiting the use of floodlights during the upcoming winter.

It may have been still November but this trip to Oldham was played in snow showers and Wigan fell to a fifth consecutive loss.

Match Kicked Off Earlier to accommodate daylight. Use of Floodlights was banned by government order from 15th November 1973 due to rationing forced by an oil embargo forced in the Middle East.
