It had been decided in an "extraordinary general meeting" of the Rugby League Council on Thursday 16th February that the league
would split into two divisions at the end of the current season. The Top 16 teams in the league would join Division One with the
bottom 14 forming division two. This all of a sudden left Wigan in a precarious position of trying to avoid relegation!
