Wigan's form was described as "wonderful" with them producing a superb performance under the floodlights at The Willows against Salford. In the second half, Cliff Hill switched to Full Back, Ray Ashby to centre and Chris Hesketh to Stand Off whilst Kevin O'Loughlin (centre) and Tony Stephens (second row) came off the bench.
