Before the Challenge Cup signing deadline, Wigan made history by signing Keith Holden for a third time. They had first signed him aged 16 in 1953 but a dispute over his registration forms saw him join Leigh instead. Wigan then signed him from Leigh in 1958 for £6,600 and during the next two years he played in the 1959 Challenge Cup Final against Hull. In 1960 though he was sold to Oldham and subsequently sold to Warrington who Wigan bought him back from at the Age of 27. Holden was not involved in this Round 1 clash with Barrow. Ray Ashby returned to full back after playing in the centres the previous week. Wigan won easily 16-0.
