A re-arranged derby played at 5pm on a Tuesday Night having been postponed at Christmas. Saints were cruising with a 15-2 advantage at half time but Wigan made some positional changes at the break that turned the game around for a while. Dave Bolton moved to Stand Off, Billy Boston to Full Back and Eric Ashton right centre and this worked because by the 53rd Minute, Wigan had come back to 15-11 with a try from Ashton and two penalty goals being added to his conversion of that try. Wigan continued to press but in the end Saints found the next score and that was the end of the fightback.
