Wigan had chosen to postpone this match on it's original date of March 10th because Billy Boston, Eric Ashton, Dave Bolton, Bill Sayer, Brian McTigue and Roy Evans were all involved in a France v Great Britain test in Perpignan a day later. The Cup Draw had also seen these two sides drawn to play each other the following Saturday, so this league game, despite being 1st v 2nd, was put on the back burner somewhat in terms of importance as the play offs decided the champions rather than first past the post and both sides were comfortable in their positions at the top. Wigan didn't play Boston, Bolton or full back Fred Griffiths whilst Wakefield made 9 changes to their regular side. Wigan won the match well in the end.

Referee:l Eric Clay (Rothwell)
