Wigan had been winning matches at a canter in recent
weeks but they had to dig deep on this trip to Thrum Hall. The only try of
the game was scored in the 23rd Minute when Terry Entwistle broke clear
before linking with Bill Sayer who sent Eric Ashton over. That was just a
5-4 lead for Wigan during the second half but a 30 yard penalty from
Griffiths sealed the win, although Entwistle had to limp off with five
minutes to go.
