The first tie on the Saturday had been played in heavy rain, Wigan in this replay made hay on a drier track in front of a huge crowd of over 40,000. After a slow first ten minutes, Wigan got on top before half time with tries from Eric Ashton, Billy Boston, Geoff Bootle and Roy Evans earning a 21-2 lead. Practically the game was won already and they won at a canter in the end but the game was left marred by the red cards shown to Eric Ashton and Leeds' prop Fairbank in the 58th Minute. They got into a scuffle at a play the ball and it was left to wonder if this had anything to do with Bill Sayer's red card in the initiai tie. The dismissals didn't affect the result though, Wigan had already done enough to win.

Half Time:l Wigan 21 Leeds 2
