A strange derby for the fact that a league match between the sides was not held on Boxing Day in this season, thus this October league match. With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday (playing fixtures on Sunday was banned until 1967), the then traditional Christmas Day clash with Salford was scheduled for December 26th, but unlike in times previous when this had happened, the derby wasn't put back to December 27th. Not quite sure why, but this season proved to be the only time a Boxing Day derby was not scheduled between 1908 and the last one in 1995, excluding war years and 1980 when Wigan played in the Second Division. Ironically the next five Boxing Day fixtures in the following seasons all fell foul to a Frozen Pitch, so there wouldn't be another Christmas Derby until 1966!

Half Time:l St Helens 3 Wigan 2
Attendance:l 22,000
