This would be the final league fixture for 26 days with the competition taking a break for the Rugby League World Cup. Billy Boston, Eric Ashton, Mick Sullivan and Brian McTigue were all in the Great Britian squad. Wigan had to play this game against Rochdale without those players but they managed to get a good win anyway.
