Wigan were already meeting Wakefield for the second time this season and they got a repeat dose of the defeat like they suffered at Belle Vue on the opening day of the season. A converted try by Smith had Wigan 5-0 down before they had touched the football and things got worse when an aggravation of an old ankle injury to Keith Holden left him a "passenger". He left the field for a spell and this played a big part in Wakefield earning the win, despite a good effort from Wigan.

Referee:l Eric Clay (Leeds)
