Summary:l |
Wigan reportedly dominated this Semi Final at Swinton
despite the narrow scoreline. Wigan dominated the first half but wasted
their first chance when Eric Ashton was called back on a break because the
past to him from Roy Evans had been forward. They did find a lead though in
the 15th Minute with Rees Thomas dummying before slipping a pass to send
Mick Sullivan over. Later a rare Leigh attack had been halted by Sullivan
being left prone "for dead" in back play. He was stretchered off after four
minutes of treatment, which reduced Wigan temporarily to 12 men, but
returned to the field five minutes later. Leigh during the game attempt six
penalty goals, all of which missed, whilst Fred Griffiths kicked one second
half to put Wigan 5-0 ahead. This proved enough despite him also missing
three penalties during the contest. |
