Under 15s: Castleford 14 Wigan 50

Castleford Tigers v Wigan Warriors - Under 15s Scholarship.
Saturday 28th July 2012. Kick Off 10:30am at Castleford Panthers ARLFC.

Match Report (Archived from Official Website)

The final game of Scholarship season and the young Wigan Warriors U-15's save their best win until last.

Wigan were soon on the score board when Jake Pilgrim burst through the patchy Castleford defence and ran 30m to notch up the visitors first try. Jake Moore and Alex Gaskell soon added additional tries, before Castleford's Joe Caplass found the Warriors defence napping close to their own line and managing to scoot over from close range, unopposed. Jake Moore added another in reply but Castleford were starting to show lots more grit and determination than the visitors and were probing the Warriors defence on a few occasions, but the bullish defence from the Warriors held firm for a while until Brendon Sunderland barged his way under the sticks to bring up a half time score of 10 - 20.

The Warriors knew that if Castleford were to score first, then the contest could mirror a nightmare repeat of the previous week's loss to Hull. Determined not to allow a repeat display, the Warriors raised their game and mounted wave after wave of offensive pressure on the Castleford line. Sheldon Johnson, Luke Randall, Tom Dempsey all added to the Warriors score, but a slight touch of complacency allowed Castleford to steel a try, but the lapse in concentration was short lived when the Warriors piled on more misery for Castleford when Isaac Noi and Tom Dempsey added further tries for the visitors. (Tom Dempsey with a tally of 22 from 7 kicks and 2 tries)

A fine win to the end of the season for the Warriors U-15's
