Widnes Vikings v Wigan Warriors
- Under 15s Scholarship.
2012. Kick Off 11:30am at Stobart Stadium.
Report (Archived from Official Website)
The weather and the greasy G4 surface conditions played a
part in what should have been a very entertaining game, but
it turned out to be a little frustrating for possibly both
sets of coaches as countless spilt ball and unforced errors
kept handing the advantage back and forth to each team.
The Warriors did strike first and with an early try from
Sean Pilling, it looked as though the Warriors would run up
a high first half score. However, the first half saw both
teams force the ball and the knock-ons came thick and fast.
The Warriors knew that they needed to improve their own
personal skill levels if they were to leave the Stobart
Stadium with a win. Additional first half tries were added
by Kyle Shelford and Jake Moore before the half time
whistle presented both sets of coaching staff with a window
of opportunity to talk to their players. HT 0 - 16
The second half started well for the home side with Jack
Bond scooting under the sticks and Danny Richardson
comfortably adding the extras. However, an inspirational
team talk appeared to have spurned on the Warriors as they
started to play with much more confidence and skill. Ryan
Houghton (2), Jake Pilgrim adding another whilst Jake Moore
secured a try in each half. Tom Dempsey added a total of 5
conversions from 7 attempts.
The game could have been so much more, but on the whole,
a good run out for both teams who showed good phases of
offensive and defensive pressure. No doubt some work to be
done on the training grounds next week.
