Salford City Reds v Wigan Warriors - Under 16s Scholarship.
Wednesday 21st March 2012. Kick Off 7:45pm at Salford City Stadium.

Match Report (Archived from Official Website)

A blistering start to the new season with the Warriors running hot against a Salford side that perhaps looked stronger on paper than they did on the field.

First half was all one way traffic with the Wigan forwards punching holes into the Salford defensive line at will. Some excellent work from the Warriors pack setting up tries first half tries for Fairhurst, Forsythe, Gregson, Whitaker, Fell and Cruickshank , giving the Warriors a comfortable 0 - 32 lead at the break.

Some home side interchanges at the break appeared to have given Salford a little more impetus for the second half and it showed when they camped in the Wigan's 20m zone for a prolonged spell.

However, the sheer determination of the Warriors defensive line was truly awesome as they repelled wave after wave of Salford pressure. After possibly 7/ 8 defensive sets, the Warriors tenacity paid off when they eventually broke free of the Salford stranglehold and paved the way for additional tries from Curtis, Dakin, Forsythe and Welsh.

An excellent performance from the Warriors with only the Salford pressure in the second half that kept the score line at 0 - 56.
