Under 15s: Salford 6 Wigan 42

Salford City Reds v Wigan Warriors - Under 15s Scholarship.
Wednesday 21st March 2012. Kick Off 6:00pm at Salford City Stadium.

Match Report (Archived from Official Website)

This was a great opening test for the new look Warriors 15's who ran out comfortable and worthy winners in the end.

However, it was against the run of play, when Salford pounced to score the opening try of the game. Daniel Croniken crossing the Wigan white wash for the home side, with Alex Jobson adding the extras.

The home score appeared to spurn on the visitors, who then clicked up another gear and started to play some very impressive rugby.

You have to give full credit to the Warriors who had yet to play together as a team as they started to produce some wonderful rugby which told the story of the first half. Some excellent rugby sent Higginson, Jones, Noi (2) and Adams (2), over the Salford white wash which gave the Warriors a deserved 6 - 30 half time score line.

However, the second half was not as stunning as the first. Whilst Salford appeared to step up a gear, Warriors looked to have stepped down. The visitors disappointingly failed to improve on their half time score line with some unforced errors and lose ball carries close to the Salford try line. Salford hit back and spent some time in the Warriors half but also failed to capitalise on their own possession.

With 10 minutes left, the visitors found their first half mojo and managed to add 2 more tries. Pearson and Moore crossing the try line with Dempsey adding the extras.
