31st August 2003: Halifax 12 Wigan 68
Halifax v Wigan Warriors Tetley's Super League VIII Round 25
Sunday 31st August 2003. Kick Off 3:00pm at The Shay
CherryandWhite.co.uk Match Report by Rebecca Smith
Mike Gregory continued to make his case for the top job with an impressive win over already relegated Halifax, which showed glimpses of creative attack likely to see them progress well into the play-offs.

Halifax opened the scoring when Lee Greenwood intercepted a sloppy O'Loughlin pass and raced 60 metres to score. Liam Finn added the conversion but it wasn't long before Wigan took charge.

Gareth Hock scored after a probing run from Luke Robinson. Danny Tickle scored Wigan's second thanks to a deft pass from Mark Smith. Tickle, deputising for the rested Farrell, converted those tries and the five other Wigan chalked up by half-time.

Dallas got the Warrior's next after great strong running from Quentin Pongia. Moments later another former Halifax player, David Hodgson scored on the left.

Wigan's next three tries came from kicks, an area of play that has distinctly improved since Gregory took charge. Robinson went over next to the sticks after collecting his own chip. Dallas took his second try after Kris Radlinski read perfectly Robinsons kick over. The Great Britain full back went over himself next, that time courtesy of a Robinson's kick.

Halifax were first to score again in the second half. Liam Finnerty finishing off a flowing move and sustained pressure on the Wigan line. Finn again converted.

But when Brian carney intercepted a Johnny Lawless pass and raced 90 metres the Warriors were back in control.

Carney brought up the half-century when he caught Radlinski's high kick and touched down in the corner.

Dallas went over for his hat-trick and Paul Johnson and Radlinski also grabbed late scores. Tickle ended with ten goals from 12 attempts.
