Wigan RL History - 1941-42 War Season

Click to View: 1940-1941 War Season or 1942-1943 War Season

During World War II the Northern Rugby League championship was suspended. However play did continue in "War Emergency Leagues". 1941-42 saw six Lancashire teams cease playing so the three remaining Lancashire teams combined with the Yorkshire War League to create one single league. This competition however did not count towards as an official league championship.
The Lancashire Cup was suspended during 1941-42. Wigan however continued to compete in the Yorkshire Cup having done so in the previous season.

Wigan Final League Position: 6th in War Emergency League (Coach: Jim Sullivan)
War League Champions:
Dewsbury (13-0 v Bradford)
Challenge Cup Winners: Leeds (15-10 v Halifax)
Lancashire Cup Winners: Not Held
