26th but was abandoned after just three matches due to the out break of World
War II on September 1st. Wigan's results in that abandoned league campaign are

On September 11th the Rugby League Council met to discuss Wartime Rugby
League and it was decided soon after that teams would be permitted to organise
competition on a county basis. A Lancashire War Emergency League began on
September 30th with players playing on an amateur basis.
Wigan Final League Position: 3rd in Lancashire War Emergency League (Coach:
Jim Sullivan) War League Champions: Bradford Northern (37-22 on aggregate v Swinton)
Lancashire War League Champions: Swinton Challenge Cup Winners: Not Held Lancashire Cup Winners: Swinton
(21-15 on aggregate v Widnes)
1939-1940 Lancashire War Emergency League
LC = Lancashire Cup
Due to the outbreak of World War 2, the league was split into local Lancashire
and Yorkshire leagues. A two legged play off between the winners of both leagues decided
the champions.
St Helens Recreation dropped out and did not return after the war.
