Wigan RL History - 1905-06 Season

Click to View: 1904-1905 Season or 1906-1907 Season

1905-1906 saw Wigan claim their first major trophy when they won the Lancashire County Cup, which was being held for the first time.
Wigan went on to win the Lancashire Cup a record 21 times before the competitions demise in 1992-93.

This season also saw Wigan compete in the South West Lancashire League which ran until 1906-07. Only six teams competed (Wigan, Warrington, St Helens, Widnes, Leigh and Runcorn). They met home & away but if they met in the league that result counted towards the South West Lancashire League (indicated with SWLL on the List)

Wigan Final League Position: 6th
League Champions:
Leigh
Challenge Cup Winners: Bradford (5-0 v Salford)
Lancashire Cup Winners: Wigan (1 - 8-0 v Leigh in replay after 0-0 draw)
Wigan also won South West Lancashire League (2)

Northern Rugby League

The two divisions were combined into one competition, with Lancaster dropping out to reduce it to 31 teams. Clubs from the same county all played each other, and arranged inter-county matches as and when they could. Because not all clubs played the same number of matches positions were decided on percentages.
