1902-03 saw Wigan move to a new home ground,
Central Park, which was to be home to the club until 1999. The opening game
was on Saturday 6th September against Batley and Jimmy Barr, a winger, had the
honour of scoring the grounds first try after just 3 minutes. 9,000 were in
attendance.
Also in this year the Lancashire and Yorkshire Senior competitions merged into a new two division
structure. Wigan were added to Division 1.
1902-03 also saw Wigan compete in the South West Lancashire League which
ran until 1906-07. Only six teams competed (Wigan, Warrington, St Helens,
Widnes, Leigh and Runcorn). They met home & away but if they met in the league
that result counted towards the South West Lancashire League (indicated with SWLL on the List)
