Swinton had been Lancashire Cup holders for five years with the competition having been suspended since they won it in 1940 due to the War. They might have had more chance in this tie but they missed five shots at goal. Wigan though were more content to go for tries with a break from Martin Ryan seeing Joe Egan finish the move and then Ryan converting for a 5-0 lead. That lead carried to half time and although Swinton reduced the lead to 5-2, Wigan sealed the win with a sweeping move in the 73rd Minute. Tommy Bradshaw made the break with support from Gordon Ratcliffe before Ernie Ashcroft finished. Ken Gee missed the extras but it didn't matter. 8,000 attended with £485 made on the gate.
