London Broncos v Wigan Warriors - Tetley's Super League V Round 16
Sunday 25th June 2000. Kick Off 3:00pm at The Valley, Charlton FC

Party Poopers Wigan Warriors gate-crashed London Broncos' birthday party and ruined it.

The Broncos were celebrating 20 years of rugby league in the capital but were unable to repeat Fulham's 24-5 victory in 1980.

The celebrations were underway when Shane Millard fought his way over the line after just four minutes to give the home side the lead.

It only lasted for four minutes. Willie Peters' pass to Andy Farrell opened up a massive gap in the Broncos' defence.

The home side, however, refused to take things lying down and were ahead again after 12 minutes.

Broncos skipper Karle Hammond's kick bounced awkwardly for Denis Betts and Glen Air, collected the gift to plunge over. Brett Walton's second successful kick gave his side a 12-6 lead.

The Warriors should have pulled level midway through the half but Terry Newton knocked on when touching down over the whitewash.

Newton made amends, however, on 30 minutes, combining well with Tony Mestrov, who flicked a ball out of the back door inviting the Warriors hooker to touch down.

And the visitors were denied a further score after 37 minutes, Steve Renouf being rightly pulled back for a forward pass after crossing the line.

The visitors moved ahead six minutes into the second period when Farrell's pass, with the Broncos defence stretched, presented Brett Dallas with an unmissable chance in the corner.

The Broncos, however, had more than their fair share of chances and seven minutes from time Tulsen Tollett got within 10 metres of the line only to see his wayward pass intercepted.

And then, in the dying moments, they got even closer but Air's kick proved too strong and the Broncos were unable to capitalise.
