|Wigan travel to
Headingley on Tuesday Night looking to become the first side to take
Super League points off Leeds this season.
Leeds of course signed
former Warriors Gary Connolly and David Furner after they were both
released by Wigan at the end of last year and it seems they have
been the difference between the Rhinos being their usual
inconsistent selves and being top of the table.
Three Super League matches
highlight this. The Rhinos narrowly beat a very poor Halifax side
20-14, only just beat Cas 15-14 and just last Friday got a very
lucky 13-12 win over Wakefield.
Now in the past the Rhinos
would have probably lost those matches but this year Furner and
Connolly amongst others have given them an extra spring in their
Connolly especially is
proving his worth with some outstanding displays at full back.
The Headingley outfit have
also but in some impressive displays most notably their 24-16 win
over St Helens at Knowsley Road and also nicking the semi final
against the same opposition in extra time.
They have a new attitude
at Leeds and they will be difficult to beat but over the years we
have a good record at Headingley.
We've won six out of nine
visits there since Super League began in 1996. Overall in Super
League we have a 13-7 record against Leeds.
Wigan need to take heart
from two impressive defensive displays against Saints and Bradford.
But will they be able to keep it up away from the JJB? Only time
will tell I suppose.
Losing Craig Smith is a
big blow but we have a good chance of beating Leeds providing we
play to our full potential.
Opposition One to
Calderwood is continuing were he
left off last year as one of Super League's top try scorers.
He's a potent threat that we'll have to keep quiet.
